Face masks have been used for centuries, although most people don’t realize it. These simple masks can have a big impact on how we breathe, both through the elimination of bacteria and mucus, as well as reducing or eliminating blockages in the airways. A face mask is typically a cloth face mask worn over the nose and mouth, designed to remove excess mucus and dirt from the face. When physical distancing isn’t possible, and when even more effective organic masks aren’t readily available, cloth face masks remain an ideal option.
Face masks are commonly worn as a means to prevent dust mites from entering the nasal passages by removing excess moisture and dirt. Cleanliness is extremely important in the work environment, so most companies make their own quality cleaning products that can be purchased along with the masks. These products are typically applied to the faces, allowed to dry, then either replaced or removed with new ones. As facial care becomes more prevalent among adults and children, we see an increase in the use of face masks by infants. Some parents feel that babies who wear a face mask while sleeping will have better sleep than babies who are wearing cloths. While this might be true in some cases, most babies who wear a face mask have no better sleep than those who aren’t. The increased use of these products has nothing to do with better sleep, and is simply a result of parents wanting to hold onto their baby’s initial development by preventing it from drying out.
Another benefit of the improved manufacturing process that has enabled manufacturers to produce high quality face masks is that they’re much more breathable than their older versions. The older filters were composed primarily of cotton that was never treated with any kind of lubricants or thickener. These fabrics did not allow for the optimal airflow necessary to prevent sweat from collecting on the face. When a person wore a cloth face mask in summer, they were subject to perspiration being evaporation away from the skin surface. A properly constructed face mask should be able to allow air exchange without allowing sweat to evaporate as well.
Of course, we don’t always want to limit airflow when trying to stop the development of mold and bacteria on our skin. That’s why modern face masks now come equipped with anti-microbial strips that can effectively kill bacteria and prevent the formation of mold. We’ve all experienced the stench and mildew of some varieties of mold. Although we may be able to resist them for a few hours, the stench eventually permeates the fibers of our skin, eventually causing a runny nose, itchy eyes, sneezing and watery eyes.
If you’re sick, have a cold or allergy that requires constant pumping, then you should always wear a face mask when outside in the yard. Not only will you be protected, you’ll also feel a lot better. Even if you’re at home, wearing one during the day will help protect your family from inhaling irritating allergens. Just imaging, you won’t have to deal with that nasty stuff any longer. Take a look around the house, you’ll find many items that could be keeping you from breathing at your best rate, especially if you’re a victim of mold and mildew.
