An Introduction to Face Masks

The face mask is one of the oldest skin care secrets. A face mask is generally a thin, clean cloth mask worn over the nose and cheeks, intended to moisturize and soften the skin. Face masks have been used for centuries, although they gained popularity with the advent of plastic surgery in the 20th century. When plastic surgery is no longer possible, and face masks are not readily available, cloth face masks have proven to be an effective alternative.

Face masks can be made up of two layers or three layers. The traditional two layers masks consist of a thick layer at the bottom that covers the nose and cheekbones. The second layer can be a light weight material that goes from top to bottom to slightly thicker and spread over the cheeks, chin and jawline. Some masks may have only one, single cloth layer or two layers. Face masks can also be made with two or three exhalation valves, each serving to separate a particular area of the face from another.

Face masks should be made with natural ingredients and handmade by a trained professional. They are designed to seal in moisture and provide a smooth finishing touch to any cosmetic application. A quality face mask can have several benefits: reducing wrinkles and lines around the eyes; reducing puffiness; moisturizing the skin; and even acting as a natural barrier against irritants. A quality face mask will typically feel heavy, similar to a thick layer of tissue, which will make it difficult for the cloth masker to work.

Traditional surgical masks are made from synthetic materials such as polyester or Lycra. These products are comfortable to wear, but they do not allow much air to circulate and this can cause uncomfortable feelings around the nose and mouth. In addition, surgical masks create tiny droplets of sweat when you breathe through your nose. These droplets are trapped and hold water, which results in an unnatural smell and an undesirable odor when these droplets are released. To avoid causing discomfort while still achieving the desired results, choose a surgical mask that is made from natural materials.

Face masks that are constructed with many layers are most often made from polyester or Lycra. These materials work to trap air in a thin, fluid-like layer. This provides a smooth, consistent look and allows multiple layers to be applied to achieve different effects. The number of different layers, or types of fabric, that a face mask can use depends on the manufacturer’s product specifications and the amount of customization that the manufacturer wishes to achieve.

For example, some surgical masks use a single layer of tiny particles to provide the smoothest finish. These small particles are usually micro particles that are sewn onto the actual face mask fabric. Other surgical masks have multiple layers of these tiny particles, each designed to be used specifically to address a specific part of the face. For example, a small particles mask might be used to reduce the appearance of acne or enlarged pores, while a surgical mask could be used to reduce the look of lines and wrinkles around the mouth or chin.
