An oral surgical mask, commonly referred to as a facial mask, is typically used by medical practitioners in the operating room during medical procedures. It’s designed to minimize bacteria shedding by capturing bacteria shed from the patient’s mouth and nasal passages in liquid drops and aerosols and thus preventing germs from spreading. A mask can be either a disposable reusable, disposable masks are used in many medical settings as they’re more economical and have been shown to provide better overall patient care than reusable masks. However, these devices can become contaminated with bacteria that are inhaled by patients, and thus they need to be routinely disinfected.
The first step in this process is to clean the mask with sterile cloth. After cleaning the face mask with sterile cloth and the area around it with sterile gloves, the surgeon will use a solution of one part bleach to four parts water to disinfect the device.
The next step is to place the face mask on the patient’s face and leave it on for ten minutes. While the face mask is on, the patient will be given medication and other medical treatments in an attempt to stop bacteria from spreading throughout their body. This is the first step of the disinfection process.
Once disinfection is complete, clean disposable face masks by wiping them down with disinfectant wipes or soap and water. After disinfection, the face mask should be changed for the next patient in line. When changing the face mask for a patient, it’s important to keep in mind that if there is a significant amount of blood, mucus or other liquid left over from previous patients, the new one may not be able to be disinfected correctly. This could lead to infection in the face mask and therefore in the patient.
It’s important to remember that if the face mask does develop some type of infection, the patient may still be able to breathe but can’t see properly. The patient should stay in a comfortable position and avoid any strenuous physical activity, such as coughing and lifting, for several hours while the infection is being treated. If the infection doesn’t clear up on its own, or the patient feels any discomfort, they should contact a doctor right away. This infection may be a sign of a more serious illness and the infection should be treated immediately. It’s also important to wash all of the hands before and after using the equipment.
Disinfecting face masks is an important part of ensuring a high level of safety and protecting the lives of all medical professionals who work within the operating room. These devices can be used for a variety of medical needs, but should be disinfected prior to use. They may be used for a number of purposes but should never be reused or used on individuals who are not in need of medical care, or on patients who are not fully immunized. Using a disposable face mask allows for a quick and efficient method of disinfection, ensuring that no one’s health is at risk.
