A surgical face mask, also called a face masking device, is typically designed for use by medical practitioners during surgical procedures. Face masks are designed to prevent infections from spreading in treating staff and patients by capturing bacteria from the nose and mouth of the wearer, and shedding it through droplets or liquid drops from the mouth and nose of the wearer. If the face masking device is not kept properly, it may also catch bacteria that may be in the air and transfer these airborne organisms to the patient or the treating staff.
To clean a face mask after use, you need to clean your hands first. You can do this by using a damp cloth to clean your hands and then gently wipe them off with a piece of cotton or an alcohol-based hand sanitizer. Wipe away any excess moisture from your hands with dry cotton gloves. Never use tap water to clean your face mask since it contains too many contaminants and the contaminants may still come into contact with your face mask.
After the cleaning process is complete, disinfect your face mask by sterilizing it in the same way as you would clean any other medical equipment. In general, this should be done by using one part alcohol (such as Everclear) to three parts water and then spraying the face mask with it.
If the medical equipment has any cuts, openings, or stains, you should polish or wax it before using it again. This is because cleaning and disinfection may not have removed the bacteria, viruses, or particles that were still present in the face mask. If the face mask has cracks, stains, or openings, you should replace it immediately.
Use cotton swabs or dental floss when you brush your teeth to remove any plaque. You should also floss your face before you brush your teeth to avoid cross-contamination of toothbrushes and dental floss. It’s a good practice to use a toothbrush and dental floss, too.
When you wash your face, you should use warm water so that you can loosen and remove the excess residue that may have accumulated on the face mask. Also, make sure that the face mask is completely dry before you apply cosmetics.
While you wear your face mask, use a soft brush to gently wash out the dirt that may have accumulated on the face mask. If you are wearing makeup, you can use a soft makeup brush that is not too harsh or abrasive on your skin.
Cleaning your face mask is not a complicated job, but it does require some work and diligence on your part. However, once you have cleaned your face mask and its cleaning materials properly, you should notice the difference in the quality of your skin.
