Disposable Nasal Mask – A Guide

A medical mask, also called a face mask or disposable nasal mask is meant to be worn only by medical professionals during medical procedures. It is made to prevent infections on patients and healthcare personnel by capturing airborne bacteria from the nose and mouth of the patient and droplets which drop from the face and head of the patient. These droplets contain infectious bacteria that can affect others that come in contact with it. It is a useful instrument to reduce chances of infection on the patient and healthcare worker.

In the past, a disposable nasal mask was made from rubber. However, these days these masks are made from other materials like plastic and they are less harmful for the patients.

As disposable nasal masks, the doctor puts drops into the nose and mouth of the patient and then replaces them with new ones when the patient is out of the operating room. This is done to avoid having an infectious substance in the patient’s nose and mouth or in his body if the patient has an open wound.

In the case of disposable nasal masks, the physician can use syringes or a small disposable syringe. The syringe can be used for injecting the drops into the nostrils. The drops should be injected at the exact place where the bacteria is expected to fall down from the face of the patient.

The disposable nasal mask has a single entrance hole. As compared to a normal medical mask, it does not have a mouthpiece because the patient will just be breathing through the nose, just like a normal person.

There are some disadvantages of using a disposable nasal mask. Some of them include having a limited life span, having limited scope of use and being more susceptible to infection.

The primary advantage of using a disposable nasal mask is that the doctor or the healthcare worker can take as many drops as needed. This saves the time of the technician or the nurse since he or she does not have to fill up the syringes. This can also be useful in situations where a patient needs multiple drops of medication or in cases where the syringe can get contaminated. since it can be reused, making it more cost-effective.

There are also disadvantages of using a disposable nasal mask. The main disadvantage is that the patient will only breathe through his or her nose and mouth. This can cause suffocation, since there are chances that the bacteria will enter the throat. through the nose and the throat.

The other disadvantage is that a polyethylene face mask does not protect against all types of bacteria that can cause infections. There are certain bacteria such as Streptococcus, Giardia and E. Coli that are resistant to certain disinfectants.
