Face masks have been around since ancient times. They have often been used to cure illnesses, alleviate pain, and prevent infection. The most popular face mask today may be found in the Southwestern part of the United States. Face masks were also used by indigenous tribes throughout Mexico and Central America for the exact same purposes as well. A face mask is simply a cover for the face, designed to provide protection and comfort against the elements. There are many different types of face masks to choose from, depending on your needs and desired results.
A cloth face mask, sometimes called a purity face mask, is generally a tight-fitting mask, made of natural textiles, such as cotton or hemp, worn across the nose and mouth. While these kinds of face covers provide very little actual protection, they do provide a degree of comfort and hygiene. Because face covers cannot be as effectively washed or removed as masks can, they are typically only worn for short periods of time, during which time the wearer experiences little to no discomfort. Washing a face mask in running water may be a good idea if there is a specific, ongoing concern about skin hygiene.
Ties/loop closures can be used for any type of face mask, although many people prefer the simplicity provided by eyelets over zippers. Eyelet closures allow a simple loop to be tied around the top of the head, allowing the eyelets to be opened and closed without having to undo the mask. Loop closures are a good choice for children, since they can easily wash the tie and loop. This will save them from tying their tie incorrectly.
Face masks made of 100% natural fabric are by far the easiest to clean and care for. Because these fabrics cannot hold liquids, bacteria, or dirt, it is unnecessary to wash fabric face masks on a regular basis. Instead, mild detergent and warm water is used to wash the fabric. Once thoroughly soaked, soft cloth is used to remove excess water. To dry, a light spray of fabric cleaner is used, and then the mask is allowed to air dry in its own weight.
There are many benefits to wearing face masks that prevent the spreading of bacteria or other allergens. The prevention of microbial spread is important in preventing the spread of illness, such as colds and the flu. If a person has a cold they may not have a desire to get out in public and possibly expose themselves to other people, especially those they do not know. By wearing a face mask, other people are less likely to come in contact with the wearer, and this reduces the spread of bacteria.
Nose and hand sanitizer sprays can be used in conjunction with a face mask, as well. Since the nose and hands can transfer pathogens that enter the body through the nose, a spray that eliminates the air can be sprayed directly on the face. This can prevent the spread of various illnesses, including colds and the flu. While a face mask cannot completely eliminate all airborne pathogens, it does reduce the amount of airborne pollutants that enter the body.
