A face mask, also known as a facial mask, is typically a skin care product designed to improve the skin’s appearance by reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, while also reducing the surface tension of the skin. Facial masks work in two ways – they either tighten the skin, or they pull it into a more pliable state. Whether you need a face mask for sagging skin, excess fat or acne, or just to restore your skin’s youthfulness, you can find it.
A face mask, traditionally made of animal fat or soft tissue, is a thin, cosmetic covering worn above the nose and mouth to soften the facial expression. Popular surgical masks come in many different forms. Many are worn like dental implants, using liquid droplets filled with a patient’s own saline or other hyaluronic acid. Although surgical masks can be made from synthetic materials, most of them are still made from the soft, velvety membranes of human faces.
Liquid face coverings are a convenient alternative to plastic surgery for people who don’t have the budget to undergo invasive procedures. The problem, however, is that they don’t last. Many liquid coverings are no more than thick plastic tubes attached to an elastic band, but even these are unable to last for a long period of time, since bacteria build up in the tubing and in the cloth material used to manufacture them. Most of the time, the only way to make them last is to replace them after a single use. In addition, most liquid droplets used for face coverings contain a chemical compound called chromium, which breaks down over time, causing a chemical reaction that causes color changes in the liquid droplets.
Another popular surgical mask that is frequently reused is the ear loops. Ear loops are tiny plastic strips that are placed behind each ear. They are useful for preventing dirt and debris from entering behind the ear, as well as cleaning out the ear canal when baseball-style ear plugs are worn. Despite their low price, ear loops are also susceptible to tearing and folding after repeated washings. In addition, the loop design makes it difficult for caregivers to tie sterile supplies such as disposable syringes, gauze or antibiotic ointment to the ends of the loops.
Hot water is the biggest culprit in causing bacterial growth in medical equipment. Unlike household equipment, medical masks require a higher temperature to kill bacteria and kill fungal spores. If you are using a hot water disinfection solution to kill bacteria, you should not use plain hot water but instead pour a small amount of the solution into your hot water bottle first, while wearing your mask. Alternatively, you can pour the solution into the hot water bottle, while the mask is still on your face, and then swish the solution around in the water. This will kill any bacteria and germs in the area.
Even with daily physical distancing practices, outbreaks do occur from time to time. For example, if an individual is frequently away from home, or if they work in a health care facility that is frequently unoccupied, they are at a higher risk for contracting influenza. However, these types of situations are infrequent and easily prevented. For those who are more prone to respiratory illnesses, it is important to wear a face mask daily as part of their daily hygiene regimen to reduce the risk for infection.
