A face mask, sometimes called a nasal mask, is a thick plastic mask worn around the nose and mouth, designed to drain out mucus, block breathing through the nose, or both. While most face masks are not medical devices, some are designed specifically to combat colds, flu, or other diseases. In general, face masks that are used as medical products are approved for use by the Food and Drug Administration, but a simple cloth face mask are far from that. The Food and Drug Administration does not approve these products for home use, even though they have been clinically proven to be effective. However, most cloth face masks do have some homeopathic benefits.
Face masks can come in two different forms. There are single layered masks, which are great for individuals with single issues that can be addressed with a single application. These masks come with multiple layers of fabric, such as a soft face veil, to control the flow of mucus. Some come with a face shield, which is an adhesive piece that fits on the edge of the mouth, creating a lip barrier to keep bacteria out. The advantage to using these multiple layers is that they prevent the irritation of single layered masks and keep out unwanted odors. Some of these products also offer moisture control, something that may be important in the winter when the nose and cheeks may be drier than elsewhere.
Single layer face masks are also available in home kits. These kits contain an adhesive face shield and elastic headbands that adjust to your chin. The elastic headbands allow you to go from easy breathing to heavy breathing without disturbing your head. The adhesive also prevents your head from drying out. For best results, these kits contain a small amount of oxygen.
There are different types of face masks you might want to try. One option would be to use N95 Respirators. While N95 means “Next Year” in terms of quality, these high-tech respirators do work to trap dangerous particles in the air, making it easier for you to breathe. A typical N95 respirator will include multiple layers of ultra-violet filters to protect you from the sun’s UV rays.
Another option you might consider is cloth masks. Cloth masks are generally made from natural materials such as cotton or hemp. They are more comfortable than their plastic or foam counterparts and may be more beneficial if you suffer from allergies. However, they do have one disadvantage – they are unable to filter out all of the allergens in the air. You should also be aware that some allergy sufferers are sensitive to certain fabrics, so it is important that you know if the fabric your mask is made from could possibly cause an allergic reaction. For this reason, it is a good idea to check the label before purchasing a new cloth mask.
Plastic facial masks also work well in helping to prevent the spread of Coronavirus. Since these masks often come with clear lenses, it is easy to see whether or not your child has been exposed to the virus. If the lenses are dark, then it is possible that your child was exposed to the virus without even knowing it. To save yourself and your child some money, you may want to consult your insurance company to find out what additional medical benefits they can cover for face protection.
