Face masks have been used for centuries, and they have proven to be very effective. The most popular face mask today is the ones that can be worn as head wraps. Face masks were traditionally used by the tribes of the Andes Mountains to keep dirt and other irritants out of their pores and skin. Now, face masks are used for cleansing, exfoliating and moisturizing. Face masks can be either worn as an over the head wrap or worn as a liquid face mask. They come in a variety of fabrics, materials and colors.
The face mask that is most popular is the cotton wool Facemask. A basic cloth face mask is typically a thin layer of coarse common textiles, typically cotton, applied to the top of the nose and mouth. While some face masks are specifically designed for use as a hand wrap, most are meant to be worn on the head and around the neck. If physical distancing from the wearer is impossible, and if less effective masks are unavailable, then cloth face masks may be the best option. Cotton wool has the ability to clean and dry very easily, which allows its use as a face mask.
One of the primary indications that a person should wear a face mask while traveling to healthcare settings is to prevent the spread of any infectious diseases. Healthcare workers who wear these masks have a much lower risk of contracting infections; thereby improving the quality of care that they provide to their patients. A healthcare worker who is wearing a face mask should always wash his or her hands before touching any surface that may come into contact with the mask. However, some healthcare workers may find that it is difficult to clean their hands with such small amounts of soap and water. As long as the healthcare worker is careful with washing their hands, they will greatly improve their own personal safety.
The second indication that a person should wear a face mask in healthcare settings is to protect their nose. Many people are often allergic to the material from which a typical nasal mask is made. Nose masks, which are made with plastic, vinyl or polyurethane, are known for trapping dust and other particles that enter through the nose, thereby preventing the entry of dust mites, various viruses, bacteria and fungi. Because the nose is often a route of entry for many contaminants, it is important that a healthcare worker wear a nasal mask whenever possible.
Another primary indication that a person should wear a face mask while working in healthcare settings is to protect their eyes. Health care workers may be required to perform tasks that require them to gaze into the eyes of patients. In some cases, a healthcare worker may need to do this multiple times a day. If this means that the wearer is staring into a patient’s eyes without protection, then they should invest in some type of eye protection. While disposable lenses might be convenient for someone who looks perfect when they are attending to another patient, they are the worst idea if the wearer needs to perform eye exams on a regular basis.
Finally, a person who must perform invasive procedures, such as a breast augmentation or a tummy tuck, should protect their face from the sutures used to close the surgical site. When a person is holding something in their mouth, there is a possibility that they will inadvertently scratch the sutures or cut the skin around the sutures. If a person is forced to look at the sutures, they could develop a severe infection. A face mask will ensure that a person’s hands, eyes and face do not become contaminated.
