A medical face mask, sometimes called a facial mask, is an essential personal protective equipment usually worn by medical practitioners during certain medical procedures. The mask is designed to be comfortable and made of durable materials that will last for several weeks or months. Although the purpose of wearing a mask is primarily to prevent the face from breathing in harmful gases or vapors, the mask can also be used to combat the effects of facial swelling or fluid build up. The face mask will provide an excellent safety barrier to these potential hazards, reducing the risk of serious facial injuries or disfigurement.
One common type of face mask works by forming an airtight seal around the nose and mouth. The droplets are prevented from escaping through the mouth and nose. Because of this, there is no chance for them to enter the eyes, which may become irritated or even damaged if enough droplets enter the eye. These specialized cloth coverings provide exceptional protection for the eyes and can even have added benefits of improving vision.
Another type of face mask functions by preventing the entry of foreign bodies, such as irritants, into the mouth and throat. These devices are often referred to as “Earpens” (short for “ear plugs”). A simple implementation of this principle is to make or purchase ear muffs that fit firmly around the earlobe, preventing any irritants from entering the ear. Ears can become irritated when they are forced open; by creating an airtight seal, ear muffs will provide additional protection and can even serve to prevent minor ear wax build ups. This method is not only effective but can be quick and easy to implement.
Different types of face masks serve different purposes. Some are designed to simply provide a more comfortable fit. Plastic facemasks that rest atop the nose and chin provide a very natural appearance. They are comfortable to wear because they rest tightly against the face, preventing any shifting that may occur whenever you breathe or talk. They also prevent any unwelcome side effects, such as nose bleeding or swollen sinuses, because they are made of sterile material.
Smiling faces are a very powerful tool and using surgical masks to spread smiles can help those who cannot smile do so courageously. One method used to create this visual effect is by covering the mouth and nose with either a cloth or surgical mask. After covering the nose, the cheeks and jaw line with a fabric, the remainder of the face is spread with smiles as wide as possible. When smiling, the face masks should appear straight, ensuring that your entire visage appears maximized. This provides the greatest impact when the wearer is happy to see others and be met with warm, positive reactions.
The secondary benefit of using these products comes from their ability to fight against bacteria. As the face grows smaller, it becomes more difficult to keep large particles from entering the airways. As these small particles accumulate, they can cause an increased amount of mucus to form, causing congestion and coughing. By producing less mucus, a surgical mask may be able to help decrease the risk of developing chronic bronchitis, emphysema and other breathing problems caused by excess mucus.
