Technology That Changes the Way We Look at Facial Moisturizers
A facial mask, also called a face pack or face powder, is a thick powder applied to the face, usually over the nose and cheeks, to facilitate the breathing process. Facial masks have been used for centuries as a way to enhance facial beauty, as well as for medical purposes. The concept of facial rejuvenation is not new. For thousands of years, people have sought to hide age or deformities using various kinds of masks. Modern science has developed and refined facial rejuvenation methods, but the popularity of using facial packs remains strong.
A traditional cloth face mask is generally a loose-fitting mask made of synthetic cloth, most often cotton, worn over either the nose and cheeks or over the mouth. Although commonly worn by both men and women, facial masks were once reserved for use by the elderly or those with handicaps. As medical advances allowed for better treatment of these groups, facial masks were modified to better meet the needs of these patients. Today, even those who don’t suffer from handicaps or age-related problems can still benefit from using facial masks. Facial rejuvenation can be achieved in a number of different ways, some more successfully than others.
Traditional face masks had been designed for one purpose: to prevent “crowding out” the nose by blocking out the airway. As the face mask became more sophisticated, other goals were added to the list: to provide protection against the elements, to improve skin quality and appearance, to help reduce anxiety, and to promote good oral hygiene. In addition, some of the more advanced varieties of face masks contained added ingredients, such as botanicals and vitamins. Today, many cosmetic manufacturers produce face masks that incorporate all of these beneficial ingredients in order to achieve an even wider range of cosmetic results.
Today’s face mask can include an assortment of different technologies to address each of these goals. For example, some of the newer varieties of face masks include a special chemical agent that helps to combat the development of the bacteria that causes the common cold. Other types of technologies also include technologies that encourage the patient to drink more water or eat more fruits and vegetables. If a patient feels better and is less likely to develop a cold in the first place, he or she might be encouraged to drink more water or eat more fruits and vegetables instead of staying away from these items and/or putting on a cold compress.
Modern face masks also come in a variety of different styles. Some are thick, some are tapered, and some are designed to be worn while sleeping. Some are used to moisturize the skin, some to remove excess oil from the skin, and some contain added nutritive agents to aid in the overall health of the skin. The exact formula that is used to deliver the specific benefits to each patient will vary, as well.
A key element of face mask technology is the fabric that is used to cover the face. Face masks should always have a barrier, whether it is a barrier that can block the entry of air or a barrier that can prevent the absorption of water. The barrier can either be a fabric like GoreTex or another similar fabric, or it can be some type of thermoplastic material that allows the face mask to be shaped into any desired form. Face masks should always be made with fabric that is breathable so that as little moisture as possible escapes into the wearer’s skin.
