A face mask, or also known as an oral irrigator, is designed for use by medical professionals in various medical conditions when administering sterile water or liquid. It is specifically designed to control bacterial growth in patients and preventing infections from spreading by capturing airborne bacteria that are shed from the mouth and nose of the wearer. In addition to this face masks have become a tool that is used in the treatment of many skin conditions and diseases.
An important use of the mask is as an infection control in hospital environment where it is essential to protect patients from infectious diseases and minimize patient care time. As well as being an infection control face masks can be used in conjunction with other effective infection control methods such as hand washing, wiping, using sterile equipment and disposable gloves.
An infection of the nose or sinuses can cause a lot of discomfort and can lead to complications including fever, pain, congestion and infection. For this reason it is important to use a nose mask that does not allow the patient to breathe in the contaminated air. When used in conjunction with a face mask an infection control method is also called as “pneumonia masking”.
Another very important usage of the face mask in the infection control is to protect people from allergic reactions due to inhalation of irritants. These irritants may cause severe respiratory symptoms like coughing, sneezing and tightness of the chest. When used in conjunction with a nose mask and face mask an infection control method is also called as “allergy masking”.
For instance a mouth infection, which is caused due to bacterial infections can produce a severe rash on the patient’s lips and around the mouth area. This rash can further spread if the patient continues to touch the infected area, inhale the bacteria or inhale the drool of mucus that is discharged from the mouth and nose of the patient. When used in conjunction with a face mask and nose mask this rash can be treated and it will eventually disappear as the bacteria that is responsible for the infection are eliminated.
Therefore it is very important for doctors and other medical professionals to use face masks and nose masks when treating any medical condition. These masks are also used in combination with other effective infection control methods for all types of infections and can be used at home to treat your family’s common colds and flu.
