Tips for Selecting a Face Mask
A cloth face mask, also called a nasal mask, is a facial mask usually made of thick cloth, most often cotton, worn directly over the nose and mouth. It covers the entire head from top to bottom and is held in place by elastic strips across the top and sides. Facial hair cannot be shaved or trimmed into, nor can it be pushed aside by the wearer. Nasal cloths are useful for treating minor infections of the sinuses as well as for clearing congestion in the nose. While these masks may offer only temporary relief from dust or other irritants, they have been used by millions of people around the world since ancient times.
A cloth face mask, or nasal cloth, is an important part of many health care systems. It is used to keep the respiratory system clear of disease-causing germs. As well, if possible, it is used to prevent the spread of diseases by providing a shield against airborne irritants. In some cases, pandemic viruses have been known to enter through these masks. If prevention is not possible or if an infection does occur, these masks can provide relief by moistening the air and removing the impurities.
Wearing a face mask while traveling is particularly important during travel. It should, therefore, be worn when travelling to places with low air pollution where the risk of infection is greatest. Wearing a face mask in other areas, however, is not recommended since doing so increases the possibility of getting dust particles in the eye and throat. Furthermore, it can make traveling uncomfortable due to blocked airways.
Face masks made of synthetic fabrics are available in various designs. Face cloth masks come in different colors, patterns, and textures. Wearing a face mask of the wrong color or texture could cause irritation or discomfort. For example, the use of dark colored fabric for a light-skinned person can make them look odd or disfigured.
Fabric masks, on the other hand, are perfect for people who are heavily covered or for whom visibility is essential. A good example of this would be athletes or schoolchildren who frequently spend the night at a swimming pool. Fabric masks, however, cannot filter or screen viruses and can only offer a degree of comfort. The wearer may also have difficulty breathing properly, since they are unable to fully cover their mouth and nose, which is why face masks worn during sports or during outbreaks of colds or flu should be of waterproof fabric.
Another important factor to consider when purchasing a face mask involves finding one that fits comfortably. It should fit properly to avoid air leaking through the nose and mouth. Air leaks from the nose or mouth could lead to nose bleeds or sore throats. It should also fit properly around the ear loops to keep the head secured and avoid falling down, thus decreasing the chances of sustaining an injury from falling over a prone mask.
