What Are the Different Types of Face Masks?

A medical facial mask, otherwise known as an air mask, is designed specifically for medical practitioners during medical procedures. Facial masks are meant to prevent infection in hospital staff and patients by capturing bacteria shed in droplets and droppings of the patient and mouth, respectively. They are also designed to prevent inhalation of toxic particles and microorganisms and the misting of needles.

Face Mask

Face masks are available in different shapes and sizes. Some of them have open face design while others have half-open face design. Most of these masks have small mouth openings to allow doctors to clean their mouths with sterile instruments. Some masks have face shields to prevent contamination of patients’ eyes and noses. Other masks have nasal masks to maintain nasal breathing during a surgery or procedure.

Surgical masks are used in surgical procedures involving the skin and mucous membranes of the face. They are typically made of a rigid plastic material and fitted over the nose and mouth area. Face shields and nasal covers are also commonly used. Some surgical masks include a face mask bag to collect nasal drainage during surgery or a face mask bag to collect saliva during a dental procedure. Some surgical masks also incorporate a face mask case or carry bag that can be used to secure a face mask to the face or neck during surgery or a procedure.

In addition to the uses, surgical masks also help to protect medical practitioners from infection and allergic reactions. Face masks are available in a variety of styles and colors. Some of them resemble the look of medical scrubs while others resemble more casual office wear. Medical technicians are often seen wearing such masks in hospital environments. They are also worn by emergency room physicians during surgical procedures.

Nasal masks, or nose guards, are often made of polypropylene and are placed over the nose to help prevent contamination of patients’ respiratory system and to protect nasal passages from irritants. Such nose guards can be used for long periods of time and have the ability to withstand the effects of repeated exposure to airborne allergens. They can also be made of various types of materials that can block out sunlight to prevent exposure to harmful ultraviolet light.

Nasal covers are also often used for patients undergoing surgical procedures where patients experience difficulty in breathing because of inflammation of the soft tissues of the nose, including the nose and throat, such as patients suffering from asthma and COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease). or COPD patients with enlarged adenoids. They provide comfort by blocking off nasal passages and providing a secure barrier against unwanted air borne irritants. They can also help to prevent the absorption of food particles from the nose into the blood stream and help prevent the transmission of bacteria from the nasal cavity.
