Some dental procedures involve the use of anesthetic and it is possible that some patients may require anesthesia during the procedure itself. For this reason, they can be a lifesaver as they can reduce the amount of discomfort caused by the operation. Many dental clinics also use disposable face masks which can also be easily washed after use.

Other sports also use face masks to help prevent the transfer of bacteria and infectious materials from the sports equipment to their players. Other sports like swimming and diving also require the use of facial masks to help prevent the spread of various microorganisms in water.
Face masks have also become very popular for sporting events as well. Most professional soccer leagues use face masks to help prevent the transfer of foreign particles on the skin of their players which can cause infections and other problems. Professional ice hockey and football players also wear face masks in order to minimize the damage to their skin when they are playing rough play. There are also professional football teams that use face masks to reduce the risk of injury and infection during games and practice.
While most medical professionals and sporting activities use the same protective device when wearing a face mask, they differ in their usage. For example, a medical emergency physician who is performing an ultrasound will not want to wear a face mask on a game day as it will interfere with the doctor’s ability to perform the procedure. A dental hygienist who is performing an x-ray will not wear one either because it will distract her from performing the examination.
